Summer Holiday in Lapväärtti: 5 Reasons to Choose the Countryside

Summer Holiday in Lapväärtti: 5 Reasons to Choose the Countryside

15.3.2026

1. Peace Without Isolation

In Lapväärtti you wake up to birdsong, not traffic noise. Yet two grocery stores (Sale and K-Market), restaurants, and the full range of services in Kristinestad are less than a ten-minute drive away. The ABC service station in Lålby offers a buffet lunch and a Hesburger just a couple of kilometres down the road.

2. The Lapväärti River: A Fisherman’s Paradise

The river runs just 100 metres from the B&B and is one of the few rivers in Finland where wild sea trout still spawn. Around 25 fish species live here, and the area is protected under the Natura 2000 network. You can buy fishing permits online at the Lappfjärd Fishing Association website. Read more in our fishing guide.

3. Pyhävuori Hiking Trails and the Wolf Cave

Pyhävuori (129 m), just 9 kilometres away, is the highest point on the Ostrobothnian coast. Some call it the “Koli of Ostrobothnia.” Five marked hiking trails range from 850 metres to 8.5 kilometres, and the hill offers glacial formations, a sandy lake for swimming, and lean-to shelters for picnics. The Wolf Cave on Pyhävuori may be the oldest human dwelling site in the Nordic countries, estimated at 120,000 to 130,000 years old. In winter, the hill has three ski slopes and 40 kilometres of cross-country ski tracks. Parking is free.

4. Kristinestad: Finland’s First Cittaslow Town

A historic wooden-house townscape, the Open Gates festival, summer markets, and a beautiful coastal setting, all eight minutes away by car. Kristinestad was Finland’s first Cittaslow-certified town, a designation that celebrates local food, slow living, and quality of life. Read our day-trip guide.

5. Your Own Space: The Whole Apartment, Just for You

There are no other guests at B&B Lapväärtti. You get a private entrance, a full kitchen, a covered patio, and a cosy wood-burning sauna. The key waits in a code lock box, so you can arrive whenever it suits you. Cyclists are welcome: there is a bike wash station and basic tools on site. The EuroVelo 10 cycling route passes just 900 metres away.

B&B Lapväärtti: your own retreat in the middle of the potato fields. Book your stay or get in touch.
